Northland rural school, Otamatea High School, has alarmed parents after the principal responded to concerns about LGBTQIAP+ ‘Pride week’ with ‘thinly veiled intimidation’ according to parents The Daily Examiner spoke to today.
When the 2017 Mates & Dates programme was exposed to have a significant sexual and transgender ideological core, parents around the country were fiercely opposed to gender inculcation, which eventually saw the programme defunded in 2022.
The latest alarms sounded at Otamatea school are around the LGBTQIAP+ ‘School Pride week’, a week which seeks to have schoolchildren celebrate alternate sexual desires during early June.

The following email is one of a number sent by parents to the school:
While such emails are considered usual for family members requesting more information about upcoming events or activities, the reply appears to be significantly escalated and concerning in its lack of quality grammar, as per being sent from a school principal:
This reply has been sent to multiple parents, and one grandparent responded with concern:
The Daily Examiner also notes that along with language from the principal viewed as ‘thinly veiled intimidation’, the email has very publicly copied in a police email, that of [email protected], or Liew Smart, who is not just NZ police, but also the Chairman of the Board of Trustees at Otamatea High.
This is significant as each board member has a school email, publicly displayed via the school website, in this case: [email protected].
The school community is abuzz with concerns over potential intimidation, prompting urgent communication within and without the school community of families.
The Daily Examiner has approached the school for comment and will update as soon as possible.
