Latest ex Cyclone Tam update

Latest update 3pm Friday

The MetService has issued a fresh round of weather warnings, with the top of the South Island bracing for 40 hours of rain.

Coromandel residents are no longer completely isolated after major flooding and slips cut off vital routes during ex-tropical Cyclone Tam’s wrath.

More heavy rain is forecast to drench areas in the lower North Island today as the upper north begins cleaning up the toppled trees and downed power lines, while crews work to restore power to thousands of Northland homes.

And as the fierce storm makes its way down New Zealand, forecasters are now monitoring a new weather system forming north of the country.
