Tragedy in Minneapolis: Activist Renee Good Fatally Shot During ICE Operation

In a stark reminder of the risks involved in confronting federal authorities, Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old activist and mother of three, was fatally shot by a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent in Minneapolis on January 7, 2026.

The incident, which has sparked protests and calls for investigations, occurred during an ICE operation in a residential area, where Good and her wife, Becca Good, reportedly stopped to observe and support local residents.

Her involvement in such events underscores a broader trend among progressive activists who challenge federal law enforcement, sometimes at great personal risk.

Newly released cellphone footage, captured by the ICE agent involved, Jonathan Ross, provides a chilling perspective on the moments leading up to the shooting.

The video shows Good in her vehicle, exchanging words with agents, including a calm remark: “That’s fine, dude, I’m not mad at you.” Her wife, Becca, is seen filming the encounter and making provocative comments, such as “You want to come at us? I say go get yourself some lunch, big boy.”

As Good began to drive away, she appears to strike the officer with her car, whereupon Ross fired three shots through the windshield, striking her fatally.

The vehicle then crashed into a parked car down the block.

While left-leaning media and politicians have decried the shooting as an example of excessive force, some argue it highlights the perils of obstructing federal operations.

ICE agents, operating under the Trump administration’s renewed focus on immigration enforcement, were reportedly conducting a targeted raid when the confrontation unfolded. Eyewitness accounts and video evidence suggest that Good’s vehicle moved forward as an agent reached into the window, prompting Ross to fire in what he may have perceived as a threat to his colleague’s safety.

The shooting has ignited debates across the U.S., with Minnesota Governor Tim Walz and local prosecutors pushing for independent investigations, challenging the FBI’s lead role. Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty has urged the public to submit evidence directly to her office, dismissing claims of absolute immunity for the agent.

Meanwhile, protests have erupted not only in Minneapolis but also in Portland, where a separate federal shooting occurred, fueling anti-ICE sentiment among activists.

From a New Zealand perspective, this event echoes our own discussions on immigration policy and law enforcement accountability.

Investigations are ongoing.
