Caleb Clarke, the All Blacks and Blues winger, was discharged without conviction for dangerous driving after an emotional court hearing at Auckland District Court.
During the sentencing, Judge Lavinia Nathan acknowledged that a conviction would have seriously affected his rugby career and imposed a 12‑month driving disqualification instead.
Moments after the verdict, Clarke was named in the first All Blacks squad of 2025.
Clarke, who pleaded guilty for fleeing police and exceeding the speed limit by 60 km/h on his motorcycle, broke down in tears as he accepted full responsibility for his actions, apologizing to the police, his family, and his team.
His lawyer stressed that this decision was not about special treatment but rather a recognition of his genuine remorse, the personal consequences already suffered—including lost sponsorships and public scrutiny—and a balanced approach to ensure his future both as an athlete and role model.
